In mid-January 2020, I finally replaced my previous Lenovo laptop (a ThinkPad) with a new one – a Lenovo Yoga C740.

The Yoga introduced me to Windows 10. (Windows 7 was no longer supported by Microsoft, which was the main reason I upgraded to a new model.)

Fast-forward 3 months, when the main way to communicate with people was on Zoom. That’s when I discovered something that surprised me.The camera built into my laptop didn’t work!

Even the customer support person who tried to troubleshoot the issue wasn’t able to help. His “diagnosis” (through a screen-sharing feature he had access to) was that I’d gotten a “lemon.”

Since everything was done remotely back then (and I wasn’t about to ship it somewhere for repairs), I decided to find a different way to deal with the problem.

My husband had ordered a Logitech webcam for his desktop computer, so I did the same. (It took awhile to FIND one, though – since it was a popular item back then!!)

The webcam I finally ordered from Amazon was the Logitech C270 HD Webcam (720p).

It wasn’t until about 2 years later – when I had to start getting on Zoom at least once or twice a week in my role as a virtual assistant for a couple of clients – that I realized how dependent I’d become on my portable webcam.

(By the time I send out the next issue of this newsletter, I’ll be using a NEW Lenovo Yoga laptop – which I’m confident WILL have a working camera!)
