This book is one of the few things I’ve never put in storage. It sits in an easy-to-see spot in our living room bookcase.

Nearly 22 years ago, my husband and my son (who was almost 6 at the time) gave me a Christmas gift that I still pull off the shelf now and then.

It’s called The Great LIFE Photographers — a 608-page hardback book of world-famous photos, along with “behind-the-scenes” info about many of the photographers whose pictures are featured in the book.

Published in 2004 by Bulfinch Press, the book is a compilation of photos that tell so many stories, it’s impossible to list them all here.

The 3-page index takes care of that, though — listing all of the photos by topic. All 99 of the photographers featured in the book are listed in the Table of Contents up front.

Looking at large books of photos was something I used to spend lots of time doing when I was young. (My parents owned a lot of those books.) I also looked through a lot of National Geographic magazines as a kid!

But even as an adult, I still enjoy looking at fascinating photos … wherever they are.
