These sea turtles and starfish are constant reminders of past visits to the beach.
About 9 years ago, I began buying artwork that reminded me of the ocean.
It had been over a year since our family had been able to visit our favorite beach (Stinson Beach in Marin County, just north of San Francisco), and I REALLY missed it.
(The framed watercolor turtle in this photo was one of those pieces of artwork.)
The other pieces you see here were all purchased about 4 years later – less than 3 months after the COVID-19 pandemic hit.
I got to thinking how appropriate it would be to share about the metallic art this month, since the two starfish and the sea turtle that matches them were ordered from a company that purchases these products from artists in Haiti.

All of the pieces were made from 55-gallon recycled oil barrels. (Talk about repurposing!)
(The detail in these metal sculptures is amazing, which is why I’m including a close-up of those.)
